Bank Independent Stadium at UNA Reaches Construction Milestone, Set to Open in 2026

The University of North Alabama (UNA) has celebrated a significant milestone in the construction of the Bank Independent Stadium with the topping out ceremony, marking the placement of the final structural beam. This $65 million project, managed by Birmingham-based HPM, is on track to become UNA's first dedicated stadium, with an anticipated opening in Fall 2026. The stadium will not only serve as a venue for football, soccer, and baseball games but also as a community hub for concerts and live performances, featuring a 2,760 square foot video board and a design that ensures unobstructed views for all attendees.

Dr. Josh Looney, Director of Athletics at UNA, praised the project's progress and the collaborative effort with HPM to adhere to construction timelines. This project represents the first partnership between HPM and UNA, with additional contributions from Davis Architects, Ampere, and Fite Building Company. The stadium's innovative design includes a 360-degree concourse access and a football field recessed approximately 15 feet below the existing grade, enhancing the spectator experience.
