Strategic Partnership Aims to Deploy Advanced Small Modular Reactors in Texas and Alberta

The collaboration between ARC Clean Technology Inc. and Nucleon Energy Inc. signifies a pivotal move towards integrating advanced nuclear technology into the energy grids of Texas and Alberta. This partnership, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), focuses on evaluating the deployment of the ARC-100, a 100-megawatt Generation IV sodium-cooled fast reactor, at power generation sites. The ARC-100 is designed to offer flexible, low-carbon energy solutions, particularly beneficial for industries such as oil and gas, refining, chemicals, and manufacturing, which are pivotal to the economies of both regions.

Robert Braun, Chief Operating Officer of ARC Clean Technology, underscored the strategic importance of this partnership, aiming to pinpoint optimal locations where the ARC-100 can bolster industrial applications while ensuring reliable grid power. Dustin Wilkes, President and CEO of Nucleon Energy, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the role of small modular reactors in crafting clean, dispatchable energy systems that tackle the dual challenges of power reliability and emissions reduction.

The ARC-100's development is already underway in partnership with New Brunswick Power at their Point Lepreau site, with a License to Prepare Site application submitted to the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission in 2023 for a commercial demonstration. This MOU lays the groundwork for a potential long-term commercial partnership, with the prospect of deploying multiple ARC-100 units across North America.
