Comcast Launches Second Flagship Lift Zone in Houston to Advance Digital Equity

Comcast has introduced its second Flagship Lift Zone in Houston, a pivotal move towards enhancing digital equity and workforce development. Situated at SERJobs' Workforce Resource and Training Center in the East End, this facility underscores a major commitment to the community's digital advancement. The collaboration between Comcast and SERJobs, a nonprofit focused on education and employment services, has led to a $500,000 investment aimed at upgrading technology and expanding digital skills training programs.

This Flagship Lift Zone, the first of its kind in Texas, is part of Comcast's nationwide Lift Zones initiative, designed to mitigate the digital divide. The Houston area now hosts 54 such zones, with this latest addition featuring 48 new computers, renovated learning spaces, and privacy pods for confidential meetings and interviews. Loren Hudson, Comcast's SVP and Chief Diversity Officer, highlighted the initiative's goal to not only provide internet access but also to equip individuals with the skills needed for digital and career transformation.

The decade-long partnership between Comcast and SERJobs has already seen the donation of over 1,000 laptops and significant grants for digital skills training. SERJobs CEO Sheroo Mukhtiar emphasized the Lift Zone's role in fostering workforce development and economic opportunities. Beyond this facility, Comcast Texas has contributed over $3 million to support digital equity efforts in the Houston area, part of its broader Project UP initiative. This $1 billion commitment aims to ensure communities nationwide have the tools and training necessary for digital participation, with over 1,250 Lift Zones established since 2020.
