Texas Rangers to Celebrate Puerto Rico's Baseball Heritage at Globe Life Field

The Texas Rangers are preparing to host 'Puerto Rico's Day at The Ballpark' on Friday, July 19, 2024, at Globe Life Field, an event sponsored by the Puerto Rico Convention District Authority (PRCDA). This celebration aims to highlight Puerto Rico's 125-year baseball history and honor former Texas Rangers pitcher Jose Guzman, who has also served as a Spanish broadcaster for the team since 2004.

This event is part of a broader initiative to acknowledge the significant contributions of Puerto Rican players to Major League Baseball (MLB). Similar celebrations are planned in Tampa on August 16 and Minnesota on September 15, 2024, showcasing the widespread influence of Puerto Rican talent in the sport.

The initiative, which gained traction in recent years, previously honored Roberto Clemente in 2022 and expanded in 2023 to include events hosted by several MLB teams. These events have celebrated the achievements of notable Puerto Rican players such as Ivan 'Pudge' Rodriguez, Edwin Diaz, and Francisco Lindor, among others.

Mariela Vallines, Executive Director of the PRCDA, highlighted the deep connection between Puerto Rico and baseball, emphasizing the sport's role in the island's culture and history. Ralph Paniagua, Publisher of LatinoBaseball.com, also praised the event for recognizing Puerto Rico's baseball legacy and its players' positive impact on MLB.
