Jeff B. Flinn
Meet Jeff B. Flinn, Managing Editor of The Boerne Star. Jeff recently signed on with the paper with an aim to help grow the readership and keep journalism in your community.
Jeff B. Flinn, 63, a Converse resident, is in his fifth decade of newspaper work. The Ohio University School of Journalism graduate spent 11 years in Carlsbad New Mexico, where he worked his way from staff writer to news editor to managing editor. He arrived in San Antonio in 1995, joined the staff of The Herald in 2000, and spent 23 years there, covering council, sports, features, education, and medical beats.
Early in my career, I spent 20 months investigating a mental health center agency’s failed attempts to bribe state officials in order to land a lucrative satellite monitoring contract. The investigation ended with the mental health center closing, the director receiving a two-year suspended sentence with time served (16 months), a five-year term for one of the employees, and the forced resignation of the director of the N.M. Health and Environment Department. APME Investigative Journalism and News Writing awards recognized that effort.
I am a married father of three, an “empty nester” who does not drink coffee, loves dogs, feeds a family of feral cats, enjoys a good game of chess, and roots voraciously for the Ohio State Buckeyes. “O-H!”
